Kagame Interview
I met President Paul Kagame on several occasions. On November 10, 2008, I had the priviledge to do an exclusive interview with the President of Rwanda for Bloomberg TV UK & Germany in Frankfurt. The news of the day was:
"Top Kagame aide arrested in Germany over genocide case"
I joined President Kagame to the local Frankfurt prison, where Rose Kabuye was held by German authorities and took the pictures above. The night before Mr. Kagame attended a meeting of German investors in Frankfurt, sharing the table with Paul Wolfowitz, former United States Ambassador to Indonesia, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense, and President of the World Bank. We had the opportunity to talk about the impact of the sub-prime crisis on the East-African economy.
In the press conference on the arrest, Mr. Kagame addressed the accusations and refered to the ongoing crisis in Congo. Bloomberg news quoted my interview:
"There are no Rwandese troops in the Congo," President Paul Kagame told Bloomberg Television yesterday in an interview in Frankfurt. "Rwanda is very much interested in peace in the Congo. We now have peace in our country and we are aware that peace in our country cannot last for long, unless neighbors are at peace."
